Libraries and the First Amendment was designed by the McCormick
Freedom Project—the civics education division of the McCormick Foundation—in
partnership with the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual
Freedom.
Libraries and the First Amendment examines the vital role libraries play
in the ongoing struggle to define and express freedom and explores four
key areas where libraries become First Amendment battlegrounds:
- Challenging books
- Issues of access
- Protecting children
- Providing public meeting space
