Why Are Books Challenged?

Books explore and express the human experience. Some deal with issues and situations that can make people uncomfortable – such as sexuality, profanity, extreme political or religious beliefs, and adult situations. Some people view such books as dangerous—especially when read by children.

Those concerned about the potential impact of books on readers sometimes feel that the best solution is to remove the books from the library.
